Nominations being taken for conservation board

Nominations for an appointment to the Anne Arundel County Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors are being accepted through April 7 by the Maryland State Soil Conservation Committee.

The supervisory board member must be a county resident, be able to attend monthly meetings, and have a knowledge of and interest in proper land use and the conservation of soil, water and related natural resources.

Anyone and any organization may submit a nomination. Nomination forms are available at the office of David Myers, extension educator, at 7320 Ritchie Highway, Suite 210, Glen Burnie 21061. They also may be picked up at the Soil Conservation District office in Suite 150 of the Heritage Office Complex, 2662 Riva Road, Annapolis.

They must be sent to: State Soil Conservation Committee, Department of Agriculture, 50 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Room 306, Annapolis 21401.

Job fair set March 10 at community college

Dozens of companies, government agencies and other prospective employers have registered to participate in a job fair scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 10 in the gymnasium at Anne Arundel Community College's Arnold campus.

The free fair, open to all job-seekers, will include seminars on interviewing techniques and resume writing. Participants may bring copies of their resume to apply for jobs.

Meeting offered for lawn, landscape contractors

A daylong conference for lawn and landscape contractors and their employees will be offered by the Maryland Cooperative Extension on March 8 in Waldorf.

Sessions in the Southern Maryland Landscape Maintenance Seminar will include insect control, turf fertilization, pruning and use of herbicides.

The event will take place from 8: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on St. Patrick's Drive at U.S. 301 South. The $20 fee includes lunch. Pre-registration is required by Friday. Information: 301-753-8195.

Court Blatchford, an employee of Annapolis-based Crosby Marketing Communications since 1987, has been promoted to account executive. Blatchford helped develop the county Health Department's "Learn to Live" campaign in cancer awareness.

Michael Bellotte of Severna Park has joined Provident Mortgage Corp. as assistant vice president and branch manager of the Severna Park and Kent Island branches. He had been assistant vice president, branch manager and loan officer with Weyerhaeuser Mortgage Corp. Provident Mortgage Corp. also announced the hiring of Trish L. Rinn of Annapolis as a loan officer in the Severna Park office.
