Salisbury State women win CAC, NCAA berth

Led by Lisa Neylan's 25 points, Salisbury State outscored St. Mary's 25-9 over the first 15 1/2 minutes of the game and hit 25 of 30 free throws to win the women's Capital Athletic Conference championship, 73-54, yesterday at St. Mary's City.

The sixth-seeded Sea Gulls (16-11) gained an automatic bid in the the NCAA Division III tournament that starts on Wednesday.

Salisbury led 15-9 midway through the first half before going on a 10-0 run over the next five and half minutes to take a 25-9 lead and finish the half with a 36-18 edge.

Salisbury State extended its lead to as much as 22 points before St. Mary's Felicia Harris cut the lead to nine -- 58-49 -- with 3: 15 left.
