Demetric Reese had a game-high 29 points as UMES defeated Morgan State, 79-63, last night in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game before 6,000 in Princess Anne.

The Fighting Hawks (10-15, 7-9) led 35-24 at halftime and scored the first 12 points of the second half for a 50-27 lead with 13: 43 left.

Reggie Winkfield and Cory McNeill had 13 points each for Morgan State (4-20, 4-10). Kevin Wallace scored 18 and Benji Surprin 15 for UMES.

UMBC 77, Sacred Heart 49: Okafor Kennedy scored 16 to lead the Retrievers (11-15, 7-9) over the Pioneers in a Northeast Conference game in Fairfield, Conn.

The Pioneers (2-23, 1-14) cut a 13-point deficit to nine twice in the second half. But the Retrievers went on a 10-0 spurt to put the game out of reach.

Wagner 93, Mount St. Mary's 79: Jermaine Hall scored 25 as the Seahawks (9-15, 4-11) ended a six-game losing streak with a Northeast Conference victory over the Mountaineers in Staten Island, N.Y.

Greg Harris topped the Mountaineers (7-18, 6-10) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount St. Mary's coach Jim Phelan, who continues to be ill with pneumonia, missed his fourth straight game and sixth of his career.

Goucher 82, Gallaudet 63: The Gophers (11-12, 6-8) jumped out to a 27-6 lead on the way to a Capital Athletic Conference win. Todd Sykes led four Goucher players in double figures with 15 points.

Franklin & Marshall 73, Johns Hopkins 66: Alex Kraft had 17 points as the host Diplomats (19-5, 11-2) beat the Blue Jays (17-7, 9-4) for the fifth straight time.

Hopkins led 51-47 with 7: 09 left but the Diplomats went ahead to stay by scoring the next five points.

Washington College 78, Western Maryland 72: Greg Adams had 31 points, including two clutch three-pointers in the closing minutes, as the visiting Shoremen (12-12, 8-5) ran their winning streak against the Green Terror (4-20, 1-12) to seven in a row.

Bowie State 84, St. Paul's 78: Eric McNeil, Jamar Wood and Jamal Shivers had 18 points each to lead the host Bulldogs (4-20). McNeil also had a team-high 13 rebounds.

York 91, Salisbury State 80: The Spartans (12-12, 6-8) won their sixth consecutive home game behind 26 points and 12 rebounds from Dave Martins. Alex Bernstein (Bel Air) added 16 points for York.

Babatunde Bandele's 16 points led the Sea Gulls (16-8, 10-4).

St. Mary's 70, Mary Washington 59: Sheldon Taylor's 19 points led three players in double figures as the Seahawks (13-11, 7-7) cruised to a Capital Athletic Conference win in Fredericksburg, Va. Brandon Jones added 18 points.
