L. Earl Armiger, founder and president of Orchard Development Corp. in Ellicott City, has been elected as a national vice president of the National Home Builders Association. He also was named a trustee of the National Council on Seniors Housing for NAHB.

Armiger has served as president of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce and was the first chairman of the Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund. In 1991, the Home Builders Association of Maryland selected Armiger as Builder of the Year.

Orchard Development Corp. built the nationally recognized, award-winning Selborne House, an affordable senior housing residence in Laurel. Armigers company is currently building 120 units of senior-oriented apartments as well as a senior center in Columbia.

Armiger said builders major concerns include the scarcity of land and labor and the mounting regulatory pressure on builders.

We will be convening the first every-summer caucus to discuss these issues and find solutions that benefit everyone, added Armiger.
