Severna Park, cleaning up in the distance events, gave the powerful squads from Prince George's County all they could handle in the 4A/3A East Region indoor meet at the 5th Regiment Armory last night.

With Erik Myhill winning the mile and finishing second in the 800; Shawn Strawbridge, Justin Marvel and Trent Slacum posting a 1-2-3 sweep in the two-mile; and its two-mile relay team finishing fourth, Severna Park rolled up 48 points in the first 10 events on the program to trail leader Suitland by two points.

The school's girls also did well, earning 30 points, which was good for fifth place in the 13-team field after 12 events. Jen Zinck and Rebecca Funk finished 1-2 in the two-mile and the two-mile relay team finished second to lead the way.

Also in the girls' competition, Annapolis was holding onto sixth place with 29 points, a majority of those contributed by Erin Masterson, who captured the mile in 5: 33.7, then came back to take the 800 meters in 2: 27.2.

Abria Queen of Arundel led her team to an eighth-place finish by taking the high jump.

Other Anne Arundel County qualifiers for next week's state championships at the armory included Eva Tukarski of Arundel and Sonny Barnes of Annapolis (hurdles), Amos Atill of Annapolis and Jeremy Hsieh and Megan Beechner of Severna Park (pole vault) and Meg Dentler of Arundel (pole vault).

Severna Park qualified both its two-mile relay teams, and the Annapolis girls 3,200 relay quartet also qualified.
