Seminar on the process of certification to be held

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will present a seminar, "What You Need to Know About the Certification Process," for small businesses that wish to become certified as women- or minority-owned, from 11: 45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at the chamber offices, 312 Marshal Ave., Suite 104, Laurel.

The presentation is the second session of the chamber's Winter Frugal Business Series, "Getting Through the Maze -- Dealing with the Government Process." The third session, "Gliding through the Procurement Process," will be held March 28.

UM to offer ice cream course for batch freezer operators

The University of Maryland will offer its ice cream course for operators of batch freezers and those interested in entering the business from March 18 to 21 in College Park.

The course covers sanitation, production costs, quality evaluation and processing procedures.

Manufacturing sessions in the university's dairy processing facilities will provide experience with batch freezer operations, producing sherbet, sorbet, soft-serve sundaes and ice cream cakes.

The deadline to register is March 1. The cost is $800, including tuition, lab fees, course materials, a dinner banquet and a certificate.
