Baltimore City

Central District

Shooting: Police continue to seek a suspect and motive in the shooting of a man about 11 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Laurens St. in Sandtown. The victim, 19, who lives in the 2400 block of S. Paca St., was struck in both legs and was in stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Theft from vehicle: A laptop computer valued at more than $3,000 was stolen Friday from a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis parked in the 600 block of W. Pratt St.

Burglary: A doctor went to put coins in a parking meter outside her office in the 100 block of W. Read St. on Friday and discovered that her black 1992 Saab with tags BBN 880 had been stolen. She realized that someone had entered her office and stolen her keys. A short time later, her daughter called her from home and said a man had tried to enter with a key.

Stolen car: A four-door 1999 Isuzu Amigo with tags ACA 76N was stolen Thursday from the first block of N. Gay St. after the owner left the keys in the ignition.

Cutting: A man, 26, was in the 300 block of W. Mulberry St. about 2 a.m. Saturday when another man began yelling at him for no apparent reason. The disorderly man took out a knife, cut the victim several times on the neck and back, and fled. The victim was treated for multiple lacerations at Maryland General Hospital.

Burglary: Stereo equipment valued at nearly $200 was stolen Friday from an apartment in the 1800 block of St. Paul St.

Burglary: Cash, credit cards and identification, all valued at more than $100, were stolen Saturday from a house in the 600 block of Jasper St.

Burglary: Someone entered an apartment in the 1300 block of Linden Green through an unlocked balcony door and stole a 35 mm camera, a Maglite and a pair of field glasses, all valued at more than $400.

Northwestern District

Robbery: A deliveryman for Valley Pizza in the 5100 block of Park Heights Ave. was making a delivery in the 4600 block of Park Heights Ave. about 7: 35 p.m. Saturday when a male in his mid-teens and armed with a handgun robbed him of more than $50.

Stolen car: A blue 1992 Chrysler LeBaron with tags EPF 093 was stolen Saturday in the 4200 block of Bonner Road.

Eastern District

Stolen car: A white 1993 Mazda with tags GYW 296 was stolen Saturday in the 1400 block of Bethel St.

Baltimore County

Parkville Precinct

Assault and robbery try: When the check-engine light on the dashboard of her a 1988 Chevrolet car went on about 2: 30 p.m. Saturday, a female, 16, stopped in the 1000 block of Pleasant Oaks Road near the 6800 block of Hillen Road. Two men approached and tried to force her from the vehicle. One of the pair also tried to steal her cellular phone and remove the stereo radio from the dashboard. The driver, who was uninjured, pushed the men away, drove off and called police. A search of the area failed to locate the men.

Arrest: William Helmick, 41, of the 500 block of Freeman St. in Brooklyn, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting Friday night of Scott Garrett, 38. Garrett, of the 1000 block of Stoll St., also in Brooklyn, was shot at 11: 35 p.m. in the 4100 block of 10th St., about a block from his home. Garrett died a short time later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police knew of no motive. Helmick was being held without bail at Central Booking and Intake Center, pending a bail hearing today in District Court.
