Munchkinland helps the arts

MARYLAND SCENE

February 13, 2000|By Sloane Brown

James Robey may be Howard County executive, but he's also the mayor of Munchkinland. At least he was in an evening performance of songs from "The Wizard of Oz" for First Arts 2000 at Howard Community College.

At a shindig before the show, the "mayor" mingled with: Hersch Langenthal, event chair; Mary Ellen Duncan, HCC president; Ann Ivester, HCC Educational Foundation board chair; Janet Robey, Doug Hostetler and Famebridge Payne, foundation board members; Michael Koplow, chief operating officer of WisdomBuilder; Patty Rouse, co-founder of the Enterprise Foundation; Mike Hickey, Howard County schools superintendent; John Bond, president and CEO of Columbia Bank; Pete Horowitz, president of EVI Inc.; Guy Platania, co-owner of Progressive You Hair Salon; and Cathy Bell, COO of Brdancat Enterprises.

The night didn't need a wizard to grant fund-raising wishes. The evening netted more than $20,000 for HCC arts and humanities programs.
