Hearing set to discuss county's use of loan

The Carroll County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 2: 30 p.m. Wednesday to hear comments on a proposed resolution concerning a loan authorized by the Maryland Industrial and Commercial Redevelopment Act.

The act authorizes local governments to provide private entities loans that are not to exceed 10 percent of the eligible project costs.

The county's loan, up to $28,000, will be used to make improvements to commercial property at 633 Stone Chapel Road, and to purchase a laser projection system to be used in the production of floor and roof trusses by Shelter Systems Ltd. in Carroll County.

The commissioners may adopt the resolution 10 days after the hearing.

Copies of the resolution are available at the office of the county clerk, County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster. Written and oral comments are welcome at the hearing.

Community Services Council announces officers for 2000

The Community Services Council of Carroll County has announced its officers for 2000.

Sue Griffin of the Business Education Resource Center is president. Other officers are: Mike Bixler of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, first vice president; Virginia Harrison of the Human Relations Commission, second vice president; Barb Rodgers of the Carroll County Health Department, secretary.

The board of directors are: Gloria Bair of Human Services Programs and Northeast Social Action Program; Thomas Blackwell, Department of Social Services; Hope Jacobs, Infants and Toddlers Program; Liz Kelley, Department of Human Resources/Child Care Administration; Audrey Novak, Society for Sight; Tricia Supik, Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County.

Terms began at the Jan. 26 meeting.
