February 04, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A nursing home resident was killed yesterday when the van she was riding in crashed into a delivery truck in Rossville, said Baltimore County police.

Elizabeth Mitchell, 59, a resident of Charles Manor Nursing Home in the 7000 block of N. Charles St., suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in the 9000 block of Philadelphia Road, police said.

Mitchell was a passenger in a 1992 Ford van operated by Transcare of Fallston, Harford County, and was in her wheelchair, which was attached to the van's interior wall, police said. The van was traveling north on Philadelphia Road just south of Lenning Lane about 6 a.m. when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound 1988 GMC truck, police said.

A county Fire Department official said the driver of the van, whose name was not released, was taken by state police helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where his condition was not available. The truck driver was not injured, the fire official said.

The accident was being investigated, police said.
