Freshman Steve Johnson tied his season-high with 26 points as Villa Julie defeated Washington College, 83-74, last night in a nonconference men's basketball game at Villa Julie.

Jermaine Smith contributed 22 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for the Mustangs (5-13). Greg Adams' 16 points led the Shoremen (8-10).

Villa Julie led 43-38 at halftime and stayed in front by converting 11 of 18 free throws in the second half.


Swarthmore 62, Washington College 46: Heather Marandola led all scorers with 19 points as the visiting Garnet Tide (11-7, 7-1) downed the Shorewomen (6-11, 1-7) in a Centennial Conference game.

Western Maryland 74, Franklin & Marshall 53: Freshman guard Jen Piccolomini scored a career-high 17 points, including five in the final five minutes, as the host Green Terror (8-9, 4-4) won a Centennial Conference game. Western Maryland finished off the Diplomats (9-9, 5-3) with a game-closing 18-0 run.

College of Notre Dame 48, Bryn Mawr 43: Amanda Poppleton had 12 points to lead the host Gators over the Mawrters.
