School board reschedules public hearings on budget

The county Board of Education has rescheduled two public hearings on Superintendent Carol S. Parham's proposed 2001 budget that were postponed because of last week's snowfall.

The first hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Glen Burnie High School, 7550 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. The second is scheduled at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at board headquarters, 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.

A sign-up sheet for those who wish to speak will be available at 6 p.m. Individuals may testify for three minutes, and representatives of groups will be allowed five minutes.

Copies of Parham's proposed "Budget in Brief" are available at county schools, the school budget office (410-222-5200) and county library branches. The budget summary is on the county schools' Web site:

Also rescheduled are two budget workshops at school board headquarters that were postponed. The first workshop -- at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 -- will focus on the proposed instructional budget. The general operating budget will be discussed at 4: 30 p.m. Feb. 9. Both workshops will be held at board headquarters.

No public testimony will be taken at the workshops.
