Area home sales up a bit in December

The Metropolitan Regional Information Systems Inc., a real estate information provider in Rockville and the multiple list service for Realtors, reported that 9,474 homes were sold last month, up from 9,135 in December 1998. Dollar volume for the month totaled more than $1.8 billion, compared with just over $1.6 billion in the previous year.

MRIS serves more than 27,000 Realtors in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Prudential Carruthers Realtors said associate brokers Marc Goldstein and David J. Desser of Pikesville have been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyers Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.

Coldwell Banker Stevens Realtors ,which has offices in Anne Arundel County, announced that it has acquired Century 21 South Lakes Realtors, which has two sales offices that serve Reston and Sterling, Va.

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. said the deadline for its scholarship program is March 1. The company will award $1,000 scholarships to 60 "well-rounded" high school seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA and financial need.
