Gunshots hit firetruck in Savage station

January 28, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Shots were fired through the doors of the Savage fire station early yesterday, damaging a firetruck inside, Howard County police said.

Police are searching for the shooter, who fired about five rounds of ammunition into Station No. 6 in the 8900 block of Lincoln St. between midnight and 2 a.m. No one was injured, but the bullets struck the truck's passenger-side window, a headlight, the grille and a wall behind the engine.

Officials at the fire company declined to comment yesterday, but Patty Thompson, an administrative assistant at the station, said, "The only thing we can say is that it appears to be a random shooting, and the police are investigating. We're just all in shock."

Police distributed fliers in the community yesterday, asking anyone with information to contact authorities at 410-313-3700. They are offering a $500 reward.
