Man accused of escaping from rehab

January 25, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Finksburg man was held without bail at the county jail yesterday after he was charged with escaping from a Frederick drug rehabilitation facility where he was undergoing court-approved treatment.

Daniel B. Kowalski, 20, of the 1700 block of Tank Road was allowed by a Carroll County judge's order to participate in the treatment program at Alice Olsen House in Frederick while awaiting trial on unrelated charges in Carroll County, court documents showed.

On Jan. 19, a counselor at Olsen House became suspicious about Kowalski's demeanor and said the patient admitted he had recently used heroin, according to court records. When told to pack his belongings so he could be sent back to the Carroll County Detention Center in Westminster, Kowalski ran away and was later apprehended by Frederick police, court documents showed.
