Chamber awards night honors local public servants

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Community Awards Night on April 26 at Turf Valley Resort & Conference Center in Ellicott City.

The event honors local public servants and educators. Nomination packages for educators are available from the chamber office and must be returned by Feb. 18.

Businesses and individuals may sponsor tickets for award-winners or centerpieces -- baskets of nonperishable foodstuffs and toys to be donated to local service agencies after the event.

Ken Williams, chamber president and chief executive officer, recently completed a weeklong professional development program at the University of Arizona in Tucson with the Institute for Organization Management.

The program, presented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, offers continuing education for chamber of commerce and association executives. It is one of seven institute programs held each year at U.S. college campuses.


Henry E. Posko Jr., president and chief executive officer of Developmental Services Group Inc. of Columbia, was awarded the 1999 Outstanding Leader of the Year Award by Leadership Maryland. Posko serves on the boards of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Maryland, the National Aquarium's advisory board and others. Leadership Maryland is an independent educational leadership-development organization that trains senior-level public- and private-sector executives to help shape the future of the state.

Pio Lontok Poblete, M.D., has been elected a partner of Maryland Primary Care Physicians. The specialist in internal medicine practices at the company's Columbia location. Maryland Primary Care Physicians has 13 practices in Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George's and Queen Anne's counties.

Margaret Williams, has added interior decorating to her list of services and renamed her business "Margaret Williams: Beautiful Interiors -- Perfect Occasions." The Columbia resident was advertising director at Patuxent Publishing Co. The 5-year-old company was previously known as "Perfect Occasions."

Jessica L. Colwell has joined the Columbia law firm of Rapaport & Skalny LLC as an associate attorney. She obtained her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in administration of justice from Pennsylvania State University. She will work in the community association and business law departments.
