Baltimore...or Less

January 23, 2000

The hundreds of pieces of fine (and not so fine) art that once covered every inch of Haussner's Restaurant (left) have almost all been sold off over the past few months, snapped up at auction along with menus, cake boxes and fixtures including wooden phone booths. So you could say, perhaps, that the East Baltimore landmark, which closed after 73 years last fall, is really not gone, just dispersed. Still, a recent look inside (above) was a stark reminder that the endearingly overstuffed old place really has left town for good.
