3 men charged in assault in Westminster

Three Baltimore-area men were held without bail at the county jail yesterday after being arrested in the assault of a Westminster man with an iron skillet, police said.

Westminster police were called to an apartment at 5: 11 a.m. yesterday in the 100 block of E. Main St. to break up a fight. Three men fled when officers arrived.

One jumped from a second-story window and was immediately apprehended, police said. Another was caught after a brief chase, and the other was found at a convenience store on East Green Street, police said.

Arrested were Kevin J. Jones, 18, of the 1800 block of N. Monroe St.; Jawan V. Weeden, 18, of the 1800 block of N. Payson St.; and Quenton C. Johnson, 31, of the 2000 block of Greengage Road.

Each was charged on 14 counts, including first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, burglary and related conspiracy offenses.

The man in the apartment was not identified. He was taken to Carroll County General Hospital and was treated for head and face injuries and released, police said.

Police believe the attack was in retaliation for an arrest last week of a relative of one of the suspects.
