Police identify man killed by owner of store during apparent robbery

January 17, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Joseph Jackson, 38, of Northeast Baltimore has been identified by police as the man fatally shot last week when he apparently tried to rob an appliance store in Northwest Baltimore.

Jackson of the 3400 block of Lyndale Ave. entered Target Appliance Co. in the 6300 block of Reisterstown Road about 2 p.m. Tuesday, shoved one employee to the floor, then pointed what turned out to be a toy cap pistol at another worker and pulled the trigger at least twice, police said.

Daryl Gamerman, 40, the store owner, got a 9 mm Glock handgun and shot Jackson several times, killing him, police said. No charges have been filed against Gamerman, police said, adding that the incident is being reviewed by the Baltimore state's attorney's office.
