Terps fumble lead, fall to Cavs, 76-68

Svetlana Volnaya scored 17 of her 28 points in the second half to lift Virginia over Maryland, 76-68, yesterday in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in Charlottesville, Va.

Tiffany Brown led Maryland (10-6, 2-4) with 25 points, including six three-pointers.

Maryland led by four at halftime, but the Cavaliers (12-4, 4-1) started the second half with a 7-2 run to take a 39-34 lead. The lead changed hands several times over the next 10: 18 before Volnaya's running jumper put the Cavaliers ahead to stay, 64-61, with 7: 03 left.

Renneika Razor brought Maryland within 64-63, but Virginia clinched the win by making eight of nine from the foul line over the final 7: 03.

Deedee Warley and Rosita Melbourne had 11 points apiece for the Terps.
