Dan Fitzgerald

Severna Park, wrestling

Fitzgerald gave defending regional champion Eugene Toms of Suitland his first loss of the season with a 2-0 decision in the Northern (Calvert) Invitational finals Saturday. Fitzgerald, a 125-pound senior, remained unbeaten at 12-0 and Toms fell to 12-1. Fitzgerald reached the finals with his seventh and eighth pins of the season. He has a 4.5 weighted grade-point average and 1,350 SAT score, and plans to attend Johns Hopkins or Franklin and Marshall to study engineering.

Teyarnte Carter

Long Reach, indoor track

The senior sprinter demonstrated at the Virginia Tech Invitational last weekend why she is a three-time All-Howard County selection. She captured first place in the 55-meter run with a time of 7.03 seconds and third in the 300 with a 40.35. Her time in the 55 was just .03 seconds off her state record, which she set last year in the Class 2A-3A state meet. Her time in the 300 was a Howard County and personal best. She is being sought by several colleges, including Seton Hall, Ohio State and Mississippi State.
