ABERDEEN -- Police are investigating the death of a Havre de Grace man who authorities said committed suicide in a holding cell at the Aberdeen Police Department.

Michael Scott Seaman, 36, of Robin Hood Road was found hanging from the cell block door 5: 49 a.m. Sunday, police said. An autopsy determined the cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation.

Seaman was arrested about 3: 30 a.m. Sunday after police responded to a report of domestic violence in the 100 block of W. Aztec St. in Aberdeen. Police said he was charged with second-degree assault.

Seaman was taken to the Aberdeen Police Department for processing and placed in a holding cell while the arresting officer completed the charging documents. Police said Seaman hanged himself with his clothing.

The department's Criminal Investigation Section is inquiring into Seaman's death, police said.
