LOS ANGELES -- "Homicide: The Movie" will be one of NBC's showcase events during February sweeps, the network announced here yesterday. It will air Feb. 13.

But, while the door was left open to future "Homicide" movies, executive producer Tom Fontana said the film was intended to be a final farewell to the acclaimed series.

"In terms of the shooting of it, the movie turned out to be a remarkable closure and celebration for us," Fontana said during a press conference at the winter press tour. With him were actors Andre Baugher, Kyle Secor and Callie Thorne, as well as director Jean De Segonzac.

"As to the future ... the sets [in Baltimore] will be torn down shortly. So that tells you something, I guess," Fontana said. "But ... I'm never going to say this is the last `Homicide' movie. ..." Among surprises in the film are appearances by Jason Priestley ("Beverly Hills, 90210"), Ed Begley Jr. ("St. Elsewhere") and Eammon Walker ("Oz").

"I think the great thing about this movie is it gave everybody connected with the series a chance to come back and say how proud we were to be part of "Homicide" over the years," Fontana said.
