Two men charged in stabbing death

Two men were charged with first-degree murder early yesterday in the stabbing death Monday afternoon of a man who had broken into a car owned by one of the suspects in Charles Village, police said.

The victim, a 27-year-old West Baltimore man whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, smashed the window of a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta about 3 p.m. in the 2400 block of Maryland Ave. and stole a jacket and a cellular telephone, police said.

Two men, who saw the victim break into the car and take the items, got into the vehicle and followed him to the 2000 block of N. Charles St. There, he was tackled, punched, kicked and stabbed once in the chest, police said. The victim died at the scene.

Officers arrested two men and recovered property and a weapon.

The car's owner, Christopher Toney, 30, of the 3500 block of Edmondson Ave., and Nathan Blue, 29, of the 600 block of N. Grantley St., also were charged with first-degree assault and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

They are being held without bail.
