December 17, 1999|By Lowell E. Sunderland

A six-team tournament in Hershey, Pa., in April will determine the two national men's soccer teams that will represent this part of the world in next year's Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

The U.S. Soccer Federation and the Football Federation, which represents countries in North and South America and the Caribbean, will announce plans for the tournament today.

Five doubleheaders, with the two finalists advancing to Sydney, will be played at Hersheypark Stadium between April 21 and 30. The Olympic soccer competition is for Under-23 teams supplemented by several older, more experienced players. Pros are allowed to play.

The U.S. team and Mexico, the favorites to advance, will start in opposite tournament brackets.
