Accused member of burglary ring charged again

December 11, 1999

A 21-year-old Baltimore man accused of being part of a ring that stole more than $100,000 in electronic equipment from Baltimore County homes, has been charged with five other burglaries, police said yesterday.

Two of the burglaries were committed while the suspect was out on bail, police said.

Authorities charged Michael Hayes Thursday with two burglaries in which computer equipment and video games were stolen. The first occurred Nov. 17 in the 8300 block of Nunley Drive in Parkville. The second occurred Nov. 29 in the 3700 block of E. Joppa Road in Perry Hall.

Police said they also linked Hayes to three other burglaries between August and October. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bond.

Saying he feared police abuse, Hayes surrendered during a WBAL-TV broadcast on Nov. 4 after police had charged him with first- and second-degree burglary in connection with a string of Baltimore County burglaries from Aug. 29 to Oct. 25.

Hayes posted $150,000 bail on Nov. 8, police said.
