APL Federal Credit Union of Laurel opens new facility

APL Federal Credit Union of Laurel unveiled its new 17,800-square-foot facility during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 15.

The new credit union building is on the edge of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory near Route 29.

Maps of county topography available on CD for $200

Compact discs featuring topography and aerial photography for all of Howard County are available for $200 a copy, over the counter, from Central Services, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Howard Building, 3430 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City.

Developed by Howard County's Department of Technology and Communication, the CDs enable citizens, engineers, developers and planners to find county data when developing or working on various projects.

The CDs are available with an integrated viewer, which will allow users to find a particular location by address, and to zoom in and out on the aerial views. The viewer allows users to use the CDs on their home computers and doesn't require specialized mapping software.

Merrill Lynch to sponsor Arts Council's annual gala

The Howard County Arts Council has announced that Merrill Lynch has become the first title sponsor for the council's annual fund-raising gala, "Celebration of the Arts in Howard County".

In honor of Merrill Lynch's contribution, this year's event has been renamed "Merrill Lynch Presents Celebration of the Arts in Howard County." With the support of Merrill Lynch and other local businesses and individuals, the Arts Council hopes to surpass last year's celebration, which raised $50,000 for the arts in Howard County.

The black tie-optional event will feature delicacies from more than 20 Howard County restaurants, and a stage presentation showcasing local and national performers. The celebration will take place from 6 p.m. to 10: 30 p.m. April 1 at the Jim Rouse Theatre for the Performing Arts at Wilde Lake High School.

The evening will include a silent auction and will be emceed by Denise Koch, WJZ-TV news anchor.

Kenneth Clark Company moves to Centennial Square

The Kenneth Clark Company has announced its relocation to a new and larger facility at Centennial Square Business Park in Ellicott City. Formerly in Baltimore, the Kenneth Clark Company is a global logistics organization; its services include domestic and international transportation, packing and shipping, and warehousing.

The 39-year-old company plans to expand its operations and hire additional staff to accommodate its customers with a wide range of logistical services.

Telecommunications firm leases space in Columbia

John Graham, regional director of Leasing, Wellsford Commercial Properties Trust, has reported reaching a lease agreement with Convergent Communications for a 19,000-square-foot space at 6301 Stevens Forest Road in Columbia. The 39,000-square-foot building is now fully leased.

Jamie Smith and Andrew Smith of Colliers Pinkard represented Wellsford as exclusive leasing agents; Jim Cahill of the Staubach Companies represented Convergent Communications. The publicly held company is a telecommunications equipment provider and will use the facility as its regional headquarters.
