Wet road blamed for fatal collision on Route 108

November 27, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

One man was killed and another was seriously injured yesterday morning in Highland when two cars collided on Route 108 near the Howard-Montgomery County line.

Police said a green 1995 Mercury Mystique driven by Manuel Antonio Miranda, 20, of Columbia was traveling westbound on Route 108 at 8: 30 a.m. when it crossed the median, striking a red 1987 BMW head-on.

Police said that the driver of the BMW, Henry Godfrey Alley III, 52, of Olney, was pronounced dead at the scene. Miranda was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the wet road surface led to the accident, said Officer George Williams of the Howard County traffic enforcement section. No charges have been filed.
