Broadmead resident, 82, dies after car in parking lot hits her

November 25, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A resident of Broadmead died yesterday after she was struck by a car on the Hunt Valley retirement community's parking lot, said Officer Chris George, a Baltimore County police traffic investigator.

Mildred Gelstharp Burdette, 82, was walking in the parking lot near the main entrance to Broadmead in the 13800 block of York Road about 4: 40 p.m. when she was struck by a 1996 Toyota Camry, George said.

A female resident was backing the Toyota out of a parking space, he said.

George said Burdette, who used a cane, suffered head and leg injuries and was taken by a county Fire Department ambulance to Sinai Hospital in Northwest Baltimore, where she died at 5: 44 p.m.

George said the county state's attorney's office was reviewing the accident.

The driver's name was not released.
