Man receives suspended term in sex-abuse case

November 23, 1999

A Florida man, who pleaded guilty in August to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl while he lived in Sykesville last year, was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison.

Circuit Judge Luke K. Burns Jr. suspended the term and ordered Elwood Fulkroad, 47, of Naples to complete five years' probation under the supervision of Florida authorities, complete two years of treatment and register as a sexual offender with Florida authorities.

According to court documents, Fulkroad abused the girl between April 1, 1998, and Sept. 30, 1998.

The girl told police she did not tell anyone at first because he had threatened to kill her. Last November, she told her father, who beat Fulkroad and threw him out of the house, court records show.
