Circuit Court judge sworn in, begins work

November 23, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Michael M. Galloway, Carroll County's newest Circuit Court judge, was sworn in yesterday at a private ceremony and immediately went to work, observing a full criminal docket alongside Luke K. Burns Jr., Carroll's senior judge.

Gov. Parris N. Glendening appointed Galloway to the bench Oct. 28, three days after the sudden withdrawal of nominee Damian L. Halstad.

Galloway, 53, replaced Francis M. Arnold, who stepped down in June after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Yesterday's ceremony for family and a few friends enabled Galloway to begin hearing cases.

A public swearing-in ceremony will be held next month at the courthouse in Westminster.
