Couple injured in plane crash near Westminster

November 22, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Frederick couple was injured yesterday when an ultralight plane crashed into a field about two miles north of Westminster, state police said.

Tfc. Danielle Barry of the Westminster state police barracks said the single-engine Kitfox Speedster crashed about 3: 45 p.m. in a field off the 1300 block of Baugher Road. The plane was being flown by the husband, Barry said.

The couple, whose identities were withheld pending notification of family members, were flown by MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where they were treated for unspecified injuries, Barry said. Their conditions were unknown.

It was not immediately known where the flight originated, Barry said.

He said state police and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
