Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Baltimore City

Southwestern District

Explosive device: A plastic tube filled with an explosive substance was found in the back yard of a house in the 2000 block of Deering Ave. in Morrell Park about 3: 30 p.m. Wednesday. Lt. Richard Fahlteich said several homes were evacuated for more than an hour while the device was removed by the bomb squad and rendered safe in a nearby field. He did not elaborate. Anyone with information is urged to call the district station at 410-396-2488.

Central District

Shooting: A man, 35, was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant about 10: 15 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Park Ave. The victim was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Southern District

Theft from vehicle: A remote control device for an overhead crane and other property -- all valued at more than $5,000 -- were stolen Saturday from a van parked in the 200 block of E. Fort Ave. The theft was reported Wednesday.

Eastern District

Shooting: A 26-year-old resident of the 900 block of N. Collington Ave. was in the 900 block of N. Chester St. about 11 p.m. Tuesday when an unknown assailant shot him in the head and chest. He was in critical condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Robbery: Two men robbed a boy, 12, of his boots and a jacket, all valued at more than $400, at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of E. Federal St.

Baltimore County

Parkville Precinct

Theft: A man who tried to leave Metro Food Market in the 4300 block of Ebenezer Road on Wednesday without paying for baby formula valued at more than $200 was chased outside by employees. He dropped the property on the parking lot before entering a car and driving away.

Cockeysville Precinct

Robbery: A boy, 15, was nearing his home in the Rossbrooke Apartments in the 1000 block of Misty Lynn Circle about 3 p.m. Wednesday when two men, one of whom implied he was armed with a handgun, robbed him of $2 and a compact disc player valued at more than $60.
