Quotable

"It was ugly. I get benched after a win. You know: `Can we win another game? Dilfer stinks. They can't score any points.' The only way you can get through it is being enthusiastic, enjoying preparation, enjoying one another. I think that's something we've done." -- Trent Dilfer, Buccaneers quarterback, who has thrown for five TDs vs. one interception in two victories since returning from one-game benching.

"Before, we were so successful that now that we aren't, people are taking advantage of it and taking their frustrations out on us and pushing us around after every play." -- Ken Norton Jr., 49ers linebacker, after team lost fifth straight.

"If we're not mad, there's something wrong with this locker room. We've got to find out among ourselves, man to man, what's going wrong and fix it."

-- Antonio Freeman, Packers wide receiver, after team lost for fourth time in five games.

By the numbers

Streaks: The Titans have won 11 straight against AFC Central opponents, the longest streak in the history of the division (since 1970). The Rams won their sixth straight at home, their longest home winning streak since 1984-85. The 49ers have lost five straight games for the first time since 1980. The Cowboys have beaten the Packers eight straight times at Texas Stadium. Seahawks DE Michael Sinclair's 79-game playing streak ended when he missed last night's game with a pulled groin.

Milestones: Jim Miller is the first Bears quarterback to throw for 400 yards since Bill Wade threw for 466 yards in a victory over the Cowboys on Nov. 18, 1962. Terrence Wilkins is the first Colts player to score touchdowns on a punt return, fumble recovery, kickoff return and pass reception in a single season.

Ups: With seven games to go, the Rams (7-2) matched their top victory total in five seasons since moving to St. Louis. They were 7-9 in 1995. The Cardinals' 23 points were their most since scoring 25 against Eagles in Week 1.

Downs: The 49ers, who are an NFL-best 57-28 on the road since 1989, are 0-5 away from home this season. Also, the 49ers have not scored an offensive touchdown in 12 quarters.

Next week

Patriots (6-2) at Dolphins (7-2): Another big AFC East showdown and an especially important game for New England, which travels to Buffalo the following week and Indianapolis two weeks after that.

Giants (5-4) at Redskins (5-4): First place in the NFC East is at stake, as New York tries to avenge a 50-21 thumping in Week 2.
