Howard County volleyball champion River Hill earned its first regional title last night with a 15-6, 15-0, 15-3 victory over Douglass in the Class 3A East final in Prince George's County.

The second-ranked Hawks (17-2) will play Frederick County's Thomas Johnson at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a state semifinal match at CCBC-Essex.

"We played well. It was a good match," said River Hill coach Sybil Modispacher. "They definitely were the best team we've seen in the regionals."

Shannon Patrick had 10 kills and served 9-for-9 with three aces for the Hawks. Lisa Humphrey had six kills and 10 aces, and Krystal Jacobson had four kills, was 10-for-10 serving with three aces and added four point blocks.

Modispacher said Sarah Albert "had a great setting night" with 25 assists.

Carrie Kelehan, who suffered a severe sprained ankle Oct. 20 in the Centennial match, played against Douglass and will be available for the state tournament.
