Baltimore County police charged a 31-year-old Lansdowne man yesterday in the death of a 2-year-old boy who they said died of blunt force trauma to the head after leaving the man's care.

Police said they were called at 2 p.m. Monday to the 400 block of Bigley Ave., where the unconscious child was taken to St. Agnes HealthCare.

The child, Tavonte Miquel Johnson, was then taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with a massive head injury and placed on life support. He died Wednesday. A medical examiner ruled the cause of death as homicide.

Antonio Jiggetts, of the 400 block of Bigley Ave., is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Jiggetts -- who police said lived with the child's mother -- told police the child fell Monday while the man was bathing him. Jiggetts said the child hit his head on the tub, police said.
