The crime report is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-313-3700.

East Columbia

Owen Brown Road: 10200 block, Owen Brown. Burglars tried to break into a shed Friday. Nothing was taken.

West Columbia

Quarterstaff Road and Freetown Road: Hickory Ridge. A 16-year-old was robbed of his wallet, tennis shoes and sunglasses as he walked home about 9: 55 p.m. Friday. Police said the youth was jumped by five men wearing dark clothing who demanded his wallet. When the youth refused, the assailants knocked him to the ground. He gave them his wallet, and they took his sunglasses and tennis shoes.

Iron Pen Place: 5400 block, Harper's Choice. Burglars broke into a vacant house between Sept. 11 and Nov. 5. Nothing was taken.

Nightmist Court: 10300 block, Wilde Lake. A group of teen-agers broke into a vacant house between 8: 30 a.m. and 7: 45 p.m. Friday.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Wheaton Way: 3100 block, Ellicott City. Someone attempted to break into a home between 4 p.m. Nov. 1 and 3 p.m. Nov. 2 by bending a bedroom window screen.

St. Johns Lane: 3200 block, Ellicott City. Someone broke into Crossroad Adventist School and ransacked a classroom between 7 p.m. Nov. 1 and 7 a.m. Nov. 2.

Beechwood Road: 4600 block, Ellicott City. Two radios and 60 compact discs were stolen from a home between 8: 30 a.m. and 7: 45 p.m. Friday.

Lawyers Hill Road: 6500 block, Elkridge. Jewelry was taken from a home about 11: 20 a.m. Monday. Police said the victim returned home and found a black van in the driveway. The driver drove around the victim's car onto a neighbor's lawn and fled. Police said the burglar entered the the house through a window.


Hicks Road: 8100 block. A homeowner arrived home about 11: 12 p.m. Nov. 4 and found someone in his house. The man left after he called police. Nothing was taken.

North Laurel/Savage

Livery Lane: 9200 block, North Laurel. Two women driving home about 2: 30 a.m. Nov. 3 said they were followed by two men wearing masks and carrying guns. The woman ran into the house and called police. The gunmen knocked on the door several times, but the women did not answer. The men left in a green car before police arrived.

Gold Dust Court: 9200 block, North Laurel. Thieves broke out a window and ransacked an apartment between 3: 15 p.m. and 8: 30 p.m. Nov. 3. Two handguns, personal papers and jewelry were taken.
