Top-seeded Terps roll into final of ACC tourney, 2-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Sophomore Caroline Walter and junior Carla Tagliente scored second-half goals to power top-seeded Maryland to a 2-0 victory over 10th-seeded Virginia (12-7) in the ACC field hockey semifinals at Kentner Stadium last night.

The Terps (19-1) face Wake Forest in tomorrow's final at 3: 30 p.m. The fifth-seeded Demon Deacons downed No. 6 North Carolina in the other semifinal, 6-1.

Maryland has won a school-record 17 straight and is trying to win league championships in consecutive years for the first time in school history.

Walter (23 goals) scored the game-winner at the 7: 24 mark of the second half. Tagliente added the insurance goal with 18: 54 left.
