Holiday cookies

The season of sweets and treats is about to begin. And we're looking for your favorite holiday cookie recipes. We'll print a baker's dozen of the best cookies in December. Please send typed or printed recipes with your name, address and phone number by Oct. 28 to: Suzanne Loudermilk, Food Editor, The Sun, 501 N. Calvert St., Baltimore, Md. 21278, or fax entries to 410-783-2519.

A winning Web site

Columbia-based Books-For-Cooks.com beat out big guys Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com to win the Best Retail Website for Cookbooks -- USA in the prestigious Versailles World Cookbook Fair Awards, which were announced last week.

Seafood contest

Open up those recipe files and find your favorite seafood recipe for a contest sponsored by the National Fisheries Institute. First prize wins $3,000. Any original recipe using fish, shellfish or edible crustacean is eligible. Send entries on 8 1/2 -by-11-inch white paper to National Fisheries Institute, 1901 N. Fort Myer Drive, Suite 700, Arlington, Va. 22209. Deadline is Nov. 5.

Tidbits welcomes food news and notes. Send to Tidbits, Attn.: Suzanne Loudermilk, The Sun, 501 N. Calvert St., Baltimore, Md. 21278; fax to 410-783-2519.
