Today's championships

Girls No. 2 Severna Park (13-1) vs. No. 5 South River (12-1)

Time: 5 p.m.

Where: Old Mill High

Outlook: The Seahawks are responsible for Severna Park's only loss this season, a 2-1 final in Edgewater on Sept. 24. Lindsey Roche scored with 12 minutes left to break a 1-1 tie and the South River defense, led by junior sweeper Lauren McKeever, held off the Falcons' dangerous attack. Severna Park's offense, featuring Holly Noga (14 goals, six assists), Erin Dubina (seven goals, 11 assists) and Meg Miller (five goals, 10 assists), will once again press the issue with South River relying on quick counters for most of its offense. This is the second straight season the two teams have met for the county championship. Last fall, it was the Falcons who got a second-half goal from Bre Benton and then strong defense at the end to come away with a 2-1 win.

Boys

No. 8 Chesapeake (13-2) vs. No. 12 Severna Park (11-3)

Time: 7 p.m.

Where: Old Mill High

Outlook: Defending Class 4A state champion Chesapeake saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end Thursday with a 1-0 upset loss to Arundel. Two days prior, the Cougars got two goals from Robbie Geisler to hand Severna Park its first county loss by a 2-0 score. The two teams met three times last season with Severna Park claiming the regular-season and county championship game before the Cougars advanced in the Class 4A East region playoffs with a 1-0 win over the Falcons. Adrian Titus leads the Cougars in scoring with 14 goals and five assists, while senior Mike Jungerheld is the mainstay at midfield. In last Tuesday's win, a tight marking effort from the Cougars defense played big in shutting down a strong Severna Park offense.
