Woman sentenced to 6 months for theft

October 26, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A Westminster woman with a history of writing bad checks was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail after pleading guilty to five counts of theft.

Upon release, Elizabeth Hord, 28, of the 1700 block of Bethel Road must pay $2,150 in restitution and complete five years' probation.

Carroll Circuit Judge Raymond E. Beck Sr. reminded Hord that she has had a history of writing bad checks since 1990. The checks were written to stores in the Westminster area.

"In your hand, a pen is like a weapon," Beck said.

Beck imposed an 18-month sentence in one case and suspended all but six months of the term. He imposed identical concurrent sentences in each of the other cases.
