October 26, 1999

A 47-year-old Severn woman was killed early Sunday when her car ran off northbound Route 3 in Crofton, flipped and slammed into a tree with its roof, county police reported.

Police said Deborah Lynn Drechsler of the 7800 block of Walnut Tree Road was dead at the scene.

The crash occurred shortly after 3: 30 a.m. Police said the car, a 1992 Ford Mustang, ran off the right shoulder near McKnew Road, struck several mailboxes and slid sideways on the shoulder, then continued through trees and brush before hitting the tree.

The cause of the accident was not known, and police were awaiting results of an autopsy.
