Morgan State's 'Gala 1999'

MARYLAND SCENE

October 24, 1999|By Sloane Brown

Things were jumping on the basketball court at Morgan State University's Hill Field House, but the name of this game was "Gala 1999: Preparing Our Students for the New Millennium and Beyond." The uniform was black tie, and the evening's lineup included a performance by the Morgan State choir, a seated dinner and a little one-on-one on the dance floor.

Among the more than 1,200 Morgan "fans" who turned out were Dr. Earl S. Richardson, MSU president; Barbara C. Hill, event chair; Beverly Booth Brown, event vice-chair; James Waddy, Elaine Clinton, Brenda Patterson and Mary Robinson, event committee members; Dave Johnson, MSU Foundation board president; John Griswold and Cheryl Hitchcock, board members; Stanley Mitchell, MSU football coach; Judge Robert Bell, chief of the Maryland Court of Appeals; and Bert Hash, president and CEO of the Municipal Employees Credit Union.

The final score -- about $80,000 raised for MSU Foundation programs.
