Warren Sumpter Speak, 71, blinds, tile factory worker

Warren Sumpter Speak, a retired Venetian blinds and acoustical tile factory worker, died Sunday of a cardiac arrest at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. He was 71 and lived in Annapolis.

Mr. Speak began working in 1951 for Eastern Venetian Blind Co., later Roper Eastern, which was on Wicomico Street. He later worked for Armstrong World Industries, manufacturers of acoustical tile, from 1985 until retiring in 1990.

Born and raised in Rose Hill, Va., where he attended public schools, Mr. Speak served in the Navy from 1946 until being discharged in 1947.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.

Services will be held today in Tazwell, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Nina M. King; and two sisters, Fern Collier and Faye Jones, both of Annapolis.

Vito Frank Sassone, 54, company vice president

Vito Frank Sassone, a Celotex Corp. official, died of complications of pneumonia and a stroke Monday at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, Fla. The Valrico, Fla., resident was 54.

An accountant, he was vice president of finance for Celotex Corp., a national building materials company, where he had been employed for 32 years. He had earlier worked for Columbia Molding Co., a Celotex holding in Baltimore.

Born in Parkville, he was a graduate of Towson Catholic High School and the University of Baltimore.

In 1968, he married the former Kathleen Courts, who survives him.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon.

He is also survived by two sons, J. Scott Sassone of Sarasota, Fla., and P. Sean Sassone of Valrico; a daughter, Stacey K. Sassone of Brandon; his parents, Vito and Mary Sassone of Parkville; and his sister, Phyllis M. Sassone of Monkton.
