Legion Post 191 to offer bingo, dinner

AMERICAN LEGION Gold Star Post 191 will hold Bonanza Bingo starting at noon Sunday at the Legion Hall on Prospect Road in Mount Airy.

A full Sunday dinner will be served at 12: 45 p.m. The menu features turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and beverages. Coffee and iced tea will be free all day.

Beginning at 2 p.m., 34 paper bingo games of various types with cash prizes will be played.

Advance sale admission is $25 or $30 at the door. Admission includes the dinner and a package of nine cards on 20 regular games, six cards on five special games, and one sheet of three cards on each of the two $599 jackpot games.

Extra cards on the above games, and cards on remaining games, will be available. No one younger than age 16 will be admitted.

Gold Star Post 191 has parking, an entrance ramp and restrooms equipped for the disabled. Seating reservations are strongly recommended.

Kids' yard sale

Mount Airy Elementary PTA will hold its annual Kids Stuff yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow. Tables will be set up in the ball field next to the school.

The yard sale will be held rain or shine. The PTA requests that only items related to children be sold.

Prospect church bazaar

Prospect United Methodist Church will hold its annual October Days Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. The bazaar will feature a white elephant table, crafts, Christmas items, plants, jewelry and home-baked items.

Lunch will be served from 10: 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chicken platters, soups, sandwiches and beverages will be available. The church is at 5923 Woodville Road in Mount Airy.

Fire Department breakfast

Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fall all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, hominy, pudding, apples, sausage, sausage gravy, fried potatoes, biscuits, juice, tea and coffee.

Cost is $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children younger than age 10. The firehouse is on West Old Liberty Road (Route 26) between Route 97 and Route 94.

Talent show planned

Mount Airy Middle School is planning a teacher/pupil talent show.

Auditions will be held next month, with the show tentatively scheduled for early December.

All teachers and pupils are welcome to try out. The talent show committee needs help with decorations, announcements, cleanup, refreshments, and setting up and breaking down the show.
