A 78-year-old man died after being struck by a car and a pickup truck late Tuesday as he tried to walk across Ritchie Highway a few blocks from his Severna Park home, county police reported.

Arnold Francis Galiano of the first block of Kennedy Drive was pronounced dead at North Arundel Hospital shortly after the 10 p.m. incident.

Police said Galiano was crossing the northbound lanes near Whites Road when he was hit by a 1987 Hyundai driven by Ellsworth P. Kent, 29, of Severna Park, and run over by a 1991 Ford Ranger pickup truck operated by Harvey L. Caplan, 60, of Randallstown.

The accident remained under investigation yesterday, police said.
