The crime report is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police reports.

East Columbia

Guilford Road: 8800 block. Two men were changing a flat tire in front of Hammond High School at midnight yesterday when two men approached them, displayed a handgun and demanded one of the men's cell phone and wallet. The robbers then searched the car but did not take anything from it.

Stevens Forest Road: 5600 block, Oakland Mills. Someone entered a residence through the front door between 8 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. yesterday, scattered food throughout the kitchen, ransacked the bedroom and destroyed furniture.

Second Morning Court: 6700 block, Owen Brown. A man approached a woman leaving her car at 10 p.m. Friday, displayed a large knife and told the woman to not look at him. The women screamed and the attacker fled.

West Columbia

Little Patuxent Parkway: 10300 block, Hickory Ridge. A man walking toward his car at The Mall in Columbia at 8 p.m. Monday was struck from behind with a hard object. The attacker attempted to steal the man's wallet, but stopped when he saw two people standing nearby and fled toward Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Powder Run: 11200 block, Hickory Ridge. Someone kicked in a homeowner's door between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday and stole a safe containing cash from a bedroom.

Dorsey Hall Drive: Two men entered the Dorsey Hall Mobil gas station at 2 a.m. Friday, and one displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. The men ordered the clerk to empty the register and then go into the back room. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Owen Brown Road: 10200 block, Hickory Ridge. Someone removed a screen from a garage window between 10 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8 a.m. Friday and attempted to enter. Nothing was taken.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Dunloggin Road: 9400 block, Ellicott City. Someone entered an open garage at 10: 30 a.m. Monday and stole a bicycle with two flat tires. The bicycle was recovered nearby.

Woodburn Ave.: 6300 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a home between 7 a.m. Sept. 27 and 9 p.m. Friday and stole cash, a videocassette recorder, a diamond ring and an automatic teller machine card. The house is up for sale, and many people had access.

Rogers Ave.: 3000 block, Ellicott City. Someone stole a four-wheeler all-terrain vehicle valued at $4,500 from a shed overnight Friday. There was no sign of forced entry.

North Laurel/Savage

Washington Blvd: 9800 block. North Laurel. A man and a woman driving at 5 a.m. Monday picked up a hitchhiker, who asked for a ride to a motel. When they arrived, the hitchhiker ordered the woman to get in the back seat with him, but she refused and fled. The man went to call police, and the hitchhiker drove off in the vehicle and was later arrested.

Leslie Drive: 10400 block, North Laurel. Someone entered a residence between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday by breaking a sun room window, ransacked the home and stole jewelry, cash, silver, a large portable stereo and collectibles.

Western Howard

Florence Road: 1400 block, Woodbine. Someone pried open a business barn door between Sept. 21 and 25 and stole construction equipment.
