Braille version of book to be presented to library

COLUMBIA -- The Central Maryland Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will present a Braille version of the science book, "Exploding Ants," to the Howard County school system this week.

Joanne Settel, a Columbia resident who is author of the book, will be present for the informal ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way.

"Exploding Ants," aimed at readers ages 9 to 12, is the fifth science-oriented book written by Settel.

The federation's Central Maryland chapter has entered a partnership with the Howard County Board of Education to provide support for blind students.

Centennial Lane will hold evening of literature, arts

ELLICOTT CITY -- Centennial Lane Elementary School will hold its second annual Evening of Literature and the Arts from 6: 30 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Tuesday at the Barnes & Noble bookstore.

The bookstore is in Long Gate shopping center, 4300 Montgomery Road.

Scheduled are guest readers, musical presentations and free drawings.

Centennial Lane will receive a portion of the sales rung up at a designated register.
