Carroll fall traditions and celebrations

Put on your walking shoes, comfy jeans and T-shirt and get ready to celebrate autumn this weekend at events in every corner of Carroll County.

Carroll County Farm Museum will have its Fall Harvest Days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at 500 S. Center St. in Westminster. Scarecrow-making, a milk mustache contest, music, food, crafts, old-time artisan demonstrations, wagon rides and a checker tournament are just a few of the activities available.

The Mount Airy Festival on the Ridge closes downtown Main Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday for this celebration. Lots of children's activities are scheduled, along with crafts, food, entertainment and contests -- spaghetti eating, hot dog eating, pie eating, a chili contest, best dressed pet and a bed race.

Scheduled entertainers include the South Carroll High School marching band, Harvest Bible Flag Team, Choe's Hapki Do Karate, Body & Soul Aerobics, Caballero's Band, Wild West Gang, Linganore Chorus, Bambini, Kids CORRAL, Faith Tabernacle puppet show, Zion Mountain Boys, American Standard Band, Skyview Gymnastics, Reisterstown Jazz Band and Davis Street Band.

The Sykesville Business Association will sponsor its 26th Sykesville Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. This one-day event starts with a breakfast at St. Barnabas Church from 7: 30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Main Street will be closed and filled with crafts and food vendors, entertainers and a car show. Town Hall will be open for tours. A Civil War re-enactment will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Everybody's Quilt Guild will present the Harvest of Quilts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the National Guard Armory on Hahn Road in Westminster.

Quilts will cover the walls, a vendors mall will offer quilts for sale, quilt demonstrations will be given and a certified quilt appraiser will give you an estimates of the value of grandma's antique quilts.

Boy Scout Troop 582 of New Windsor will have a two-day flea market and raffle from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at the New Windsor Firemen's Carnival Grounds on Atlee Avenue.

Vendors will offer crafts and yard sale/flea market items, and the Scouts will sell a variety of foods and beverages.

Piney Run Park will hold its Fall Fishing Tournament from 6 a.m. to noon tomorrow on the lake, 30 Martz Road, Eldersburg. The entry fee is $12 (plus park entrance fees), and Maryland fishing regulations apply. Cash prizes will be awarded. Registration is required. Information: 410-795-3274.
