Elkridge man is sentenced to 18 months in jail for assault

September 26, 1999

A 43-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 18 months in jail stemming from the assault on a Baltimore man at Denny's Food Market in Elkridge last year.

Howell G. Chambers of Elkridge was convicted in January of second-degree assault in the beating of Thomas E. Baumgarten of Baltimore. Baumgarten alleged in court papers that Chambers "pounded [him] into unconsciousness" on Jan. 10, 1998, at the market.

"This isn't a run-of-the-mill assault," said Assistant State's Attorney Debra Saltz. "This is a serious case."
